Otto Dix was a German painter, printmaker, and sculptor who was one of the most important artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit movement. He is best known for his paintings and prints that depicted the horrors of World War I. His work often featured grotesque and distorted figures, which were meant to convey the brutality of war. He also created a number of portraits of prominent figures from the Weimar Republic.
