MARC Chagall was a Russian-French artist who is best known for his modernist paintings and stained glass windows. He was born in Vitebsk, Belarus in 1887 and died in 1985. He was a major figure in the early 20th century avant-garde movement and is considered one of the most important modernist painters of the 20th century.
