The Pacific Group is a term that refers to two distinct organizations. The first is Oceania, which is a geographical region consisting of Australia, New Zealand, and the many islands of the South Pacific Ocean. The second is SEATO, which stands for the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization. SEATO was an international organization formed in 1954 to promote collective defense and economic cooperation in Southeast Asia. Both organizations have since been dissolved, but their legacy remains in the form of the modern-day Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
