Pacific Discoverer is a term used to refer to the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de BALBOA, who was the first European to discover the Pacific Ocean in 1513. He was also the first to cross the Isthmus of Panama and reach the South Sea, as the Pacific Ocean was then known. BALBOA's discovery of the Pacific Ocean opened up new trade routes and allowed for the exploration of the Americas by Europeans.
