George M. Cohan was an American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer. He is known for his patriotic songs such as 'Over There' and 'YOU're a Grand Old Flag'. Cohan wrote, composed, produced, and appeared in more than three dozen Broadway musicals. He was known as 'The Man Who Owned Broadway' and was the first person to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
