The Ottoman Empire was founded by Osman I, also known as Othman I, in 1299. He was the leader of the Ottoman Turks and is credited with laying the foundation for one of the longest-lasting empires in history. Osman I was succeeded by his son Orhan I, who expanded the empire's territory and made it a major power in the region. The Ottoman Empire lasted until 1922, when it was dissolved following World War I.
