The Oslo Accords were a set of agreements between the government of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) signed in 1993. The two main participants in the Accords were Shimon Peres, the Prime Minister of Israel at the time, and Yasser ARAFAT, the Chairman of the PLO. Peres was a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 1996. ARAFAT was the leader of the PLO from 1969 until his death in 2004. He was also the first President of the Palestinian Authority from 1996 to 2004. Both Peres and ARAFAT played a major role in the negotiations leading up to the signing of the Oslo Accords.
