The Ohio River is one of the three rivers that form the boundaries of the United States. It is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River and is located in the Midwestern and Southern United States. The Ohio River is 981 miles long and is formed by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It flows southwestward and empties into the Mississippi River near Cairo, Illinois.
