Erte, also known as Romain de Tirtoff, was a Russian-born French artist and designer who was best known for his Art Deco designs. He was one of the most influential fashion designers of the early 20th century and was the first designer to create costumes for the stage. He was also known for his illustrations of the Jazz Age and his work in the fields of fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, and interior design.
