The term 'RAID' in relation to the 1976 Operation Entebbe is an acronym for 'Retorno a Israel en Democracia' which translates to 'Return to Israel in Democracy'. This was the name given to the Israeli military operation that successfully freed 103 hostages from an Air France plane that had been hijacked by Palestinian and German terrorists and diverted to Entebbe, Uganda. The RAID was led by the then Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin, and involved a daring rescue mission by Israeli commandos. The successful mission was seen as a major victory for Israel and a demonstration of its military prowess.
