Old Semitic Language is an umbrella term for a group of languages that were spoken in the Middle East and North Africa from around the 8th century BC to the 6th century AD. The most well-known Old Semitic language is Aramaic, which was the lingua franca of the region during the time of the Neo-Assyrian Empire and the Achaemenid Empire. It is still spoken today by some communities in the Middle East.
