A DRYAD is a nymph of trees in Greek mythology. They are female tree spirits who inhabit and protect the forests. DAPHNE is another nymph of trees, also from Greek mythology. She was a daughter of the river god Peneus and was transformed into a laurel tree to escape the advances of Apollo.
