The most famous example of a nuclear submarine is the USS Nautilus, which was the first nuclear-powered submarine in the world. It was launched in 1954 and was the first vessel to complete a submerged transit of the North Pole. The Nautilus was decommissioned in 1980 and is now a museum ship in Groton, Connecticut.
