Ann Beattie is an American novelist and short story writer. She was born in Washington, D.C. in 1947 and is best known for her 1975 novel Chilly Scenes of Winter. Her other works include the novels Picturing Will, Love Always, and The Doctor's House, as well as the short story collections Distortions, Secrets and Surprises, and Where You'll Find Me. Beattie has won numerous awards, including the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction and the Rea Award for the Short Story.
