Elie Wiesel was a Nobelist and author who is best known for his work in Holocaust literature. He was born in Romania in 1928 and survived the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps during World War II. After the war, he wrote his most famous work, Night, which recounts his experiences in the camps. He went on to become an advocate for human rights and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. His given name was Eliezer, but he was commonly known as Elie.
