Gerald FORD was the 38th President of the United States, succeeding Richard Nixon after his resignation in 1974. FORD was the only president to have never been elected to either the presidency or the vice presidency. He was appointed Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned and then succeeded Nixon as President after Nixon's resignation. FORD is remembered for his pardon of Nixon, which was highly controversial at the time.
