REM is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. The band consists of Michael Stipe (vocals, guitar), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass, vocals) and Bill Berry (drums, vocals). The band's name, Nightswimming Band, is derived from their hit single 'Nightswimming' from their 1992 album Automatic for the People. The song was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming one of the band's signature songs. The band has released 15 studio albums and has sold over 85 million records worldwide.
