The New York Cosmos Star was the legendary Brazilian footballer Pele, who played for the team from 1975 to 1977. He was a four-time World Cup winner and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. During his time with the Cosmos, he helped the team win the 1977 North American Soccer League championship. His presence in the team also helped to popularize soccer in the United States.
