The CHEROKEE are a Native North American people who historically lived in the southeastern United States. They are one of the five recognized tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy, and their language is part of the Iroquoian language family. The CHEROKEE were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in the 1830s and relocated to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. Today, the CHEROKEE Nation is the largest federally recognized tribe in the United States, with over 300, 000 enrolled members.
