The Native American chieftain Hiawatha was a leader of the Iroquois Confederacy, a powerful alliance of five Native American nations in the northeastern United States. He is credited with uniting the five nations and creating the Great Law of Peace, which served as the basis for the Iroquois Confederacy's government. Hiawatha is also remembered for his role in the development of the Iroquois language and culture.
