Napoleon's exile site was the island of Elba, located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy. Elba was chosen by the British as a place for Napoleon to be exiled after his abdication in 1814. He was allowed to keep his title of Emperor and was given sovereignty over the island. Napoleon stayed on Elba until 1815 when he escaped and returned to France, leading to his final defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.
