The Muslim holy month of RAMADAN is a period of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and lasts for 29 or 30 days. During this time, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and engaging in sexual activities from dawn until sunset. RAMADAN is also a time for spiritual growth and increased devotion to God. It is believed that during this month, the gates of heaven are open and the gates of hell are closed.
