A municipal official is a person who holds an elected or appointed position in a local government. The term 'REEVE' is a title used in some parts of the United Kingdom and Canada for a municipal official, typically the chief executive or presiding officer of a town, village, or civil parish. In Canada, the title is also used for the mayor of a rural municipality. The term is derived from the Old English word gerefa, meaning a royal official.
