Alla Nazimova was a Russian-American actress, director, and producer who was active in the early 20th century. She is best known for her roles in silent films such as Camille (1921) and Salome (1923). She was also a successful stage actress, appearing in productions of plays by Anton Chekhov and Henrik Ibsen. Nazimova was one of the first female filmmakers in Hollywood and was an early advocate for LGBT rights.
