Lou Gehrig was an American professional baseball player who played for the New York Yankees from 1923 to 1939. He was nicknamed 'The Iron Horse' for his durability and was widely considered one of the greatest players in baseball history. He was a seven-time All-Star, won two American League MVP awards, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. He is best remembered for his record-breaking streak of 2, 130 consecutive games played, which stood until it was broken by Cal Ripken Jr. in 1995.
