Most of Libya is located in North Africa and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. The SAHARA Desert covers much of the country, with the exception of the coastal region. The SAHARA is the world's largest desert, covering an area of over 9 million square kilometers. It is a vast expanse of sand dunes, rocky plateaus, and gravel plains.
