Moorland is a type of habitat found in upland areas, characterized by low-growing vegetation and acidic soil. It is often found on the edges of mountains and is composed of HEATH, FELL, and wold. HEATH is an area of open uncultivated land with sandy soil and patches of shrubs and stunted trees. FELL is a high, barren, treeless hill or mountain. Wold is an area of open rolling hills, usually covered with grass. Together, these three components form the moorland habitat.
