The MLB Official term is composed of three parts: UMP, which stands for umpire; SCR, which stands for scorer; and STAT, which stands for statistician. An umpire is responsible for making calls on the field during a game, such as balls and strikes, fair or foul balls, and safe or out calls. A scorer is responsible for keeping track of the game's statistics, such as runs, hits, and errors. Finally, a statistician is responsible for analyzing the data collected by the scorer to provide further insight into the game.
