Military formation is an organized arrangement of troops in a battle or drill. WEDGE, ECHELON, FLANK, phalanx, ARMY, REGIMENT, UNIT and BRIGADE are all terms used to describe different types of military formations. WEDGE is a formation in which troops are arranged in a triangular shape with the point facing the enemy. ECHELON is a formation in which troops are arranged in a V-shape with the point facing the enemy. FLANK is a formation in which troops are arranged on either side of the main body of troops. Phalanx is a formation in which troops are arranged in a close formation with shields overlapping. ARMY is a large organized force of soldiers. REGIMENT is a UNIT of the ARMY consisting of several battalions. UNIT is a small group of soldiers. BRIGADE is a large military UNIT composed of two or more regiments.
