Maya Lin is a world-renowned memorial designer, best known for her design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. She was born in Athens, Ohio in 1959 and studied architecture and sculpture at Yale University. Her design for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was chosen from over 1, 400 submissions in 1981, when she was only 21 years old. Since then, she has designed numerous other memorials, including the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama and the Women's Table at Yale University.
