The Medieval Worker was composed of three distinct roles: ESNE, SERF, and VASSAL. An ESNE was a skilled worker, usually a craftsman or artisan, who was employed by a lord or noble. A SERF was an agricultural laborer who was bound to the land and had to pay rent and labor services to the lord. A VASSAL was a noble or knight who held land from a lord in exchange for military service. All three roles were essential to the functioning of Medieval society.
