Ted Turner is an American media mogul and philanthropist. He is best known for founding the cable news network CNN, the first 24-hour cable news channel. He also founded WTBS, which became a major basic cable network. Turner's media empire also included several other cable networks such as TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, and Turner Classic Movies. He was also the owner of the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team from 1976 to 2007. Turner has been recognized for his philanthropic work, including his $1 billion pledge to support United Nations causes.
