Joseph McCarthy's prey were people he accused of being communists, or 'Reds'. McCarthy was a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin who led a campaign against communism in the 1950s. He used his power to accuse people of being communists without any evidence, and many of his targets were blacklisted and lost their jobs. The term 'McCarthy's Prey' is used to refer to those people who were falsely accused by McCarthy.
