Mary Lou Retton is an American former gymnast who won the all-around individual gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She was the first female gymnast from outside Eastern Europe to win the Olympic all-around title. Retton also won two silver medals and two bronze medals at the 1984 Olympics. She is one of the most popular athletes in the United States and is widely considered to be one of the greatest American gymnasts of all time.
