REM is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. The band consists of Michael Stipe (vocals, guitar), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass, vocals) and Bill Berry (drums, vocals). They are best known for their hit single 'Man on the Moon', which was released in 1992 and reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was also featured in the 1999 film Man on the Moon, which starred Jim Carrey as the late comedian Andy Kaufman. REM has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and is one of the most successful alternative rock bands of all time.
