Gus Kahn was a German-American lyricist and songwriter who wrote many popular songs in the early 20th century. He is best known for writing the lyrics to 'It Had to Be You, ' 'Makin' Whoopee, ' and 'Dream a Little Dream of Me.' Kahn was born in Germany in 1886 and moved to the United States in 1906. He began his career as a songwriter in 1912 and went on to become one of the most successful lyricists of the era. His work has been covered by many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong. Kahn died in 1941 at the age of 55.
