The term Lusitania is composed of two words: 'LINER' and 'Portugal'. The RMS Lusitania was a British ocean LINER that was sunk by a German U-boat during World War I. It was built in 1906 and was the largest and fastest passenger ship of its time. It sailed from Liverpool, England to New York City, USA and was owned by the Cunard Line. It was named after the ancient Roman province of Lusitania, which was located in modern-day Portugal.
