Ida Lupino was an English-American actress, singer, director, and screenwriter who worked in film, radio, and television. She is best known for her work in the 1950s as a director and actor in the film noir genre. She was one of the few women working in Hollywood during this time and was the first woman to direct a film noir. Lupino also wrote and directed several television shows, including The Fugitive and The Twilight Zone. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1953 film The Hitch-Hiker.
