Sybil Ludington was a 1777 militia-alerting rider who is remembered for her heroic ride. She was the daughter of Colonel Henry Ludington, a militia commander in Dutchess County, New York. On April 26, 1777, Sybil rode 40 miles through the night to alert the militia of an impending British attack on Danbury, Connecticut. Her ride was longer than Paul Revere's and she is remembered as a heroine of the American Revolution.
