Kingsley AMIS was a British novelist, poet, critic, and teacher. He is best known for his novel 'Lucky Jim', which was published in 1954 and is considered to be one of the most influential works of the 20th century. AMIS was also a prolific writer of poetry, short stories, and essays. He was awarded the Booker Prize in 1986 for his novel 'The Old Devils'. AMIS was a professor of English at the University of East Anglia from 1970 until his retirement in 1980.
