Ada Lovelace was a computer pioneer who is widely credited as the first computer programmer. She was born in 1815 and worked closely with Charles Babbage on his Analytical Engine, a mechanical general-purpose computer. Lovelace wrote an algorithm for the machine, which is considered to be the first ever published algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine. Her work was largely unrecognized until the 1950s, when her notes were republished and she was recognized as a visionary in the field of computing.
