Trent Lott is a former United States Senator from Mississippi who served from 1989 to 2007. He was a Republican and was the Senate Majority Leader from 1996 to 2001. Lott was born in Grenada, Mississippi and attended the University of Mississippi. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1972 and then to the Senate in 1988. He resigned from the Senate in 2007 and now works as a lobbyist and political consultant.
