Eleanor Roosevelt was the longest-serving First Lady in U.S. history, serving from 1933 to 1945 during the presidency of her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was an advocate for civil rights and a champion of social justice, and she was the first presidential spouse to hold press conferences, write a syndicated newspaper column, and speak at a national convention. She also served as the United States delegate to the United Nations General Assembly.
