Esperanto is a constructed language created in the late 19th century by Polish ophthalmologist L.L. Zamenhof. It was designed to be an international language that could bridge cultural divides and facilitate communication between people of different backgrounds. Esperanto is sometimes referred to as a lingua franca, or a language used as a common means of communication between speakers of different languages.
