Like many elephants, ASIAN and ASIATIC elephants are two of the three living species of elephant. They are native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, respectively. ASIAN elephants are smaller than African elephants and have smaller ears, a more arched back, and one less finger on their trunks. ASIATIC elephants are also smaller than African elephants and have a more rounded forehead and two distinct humps on their backs. Both species are endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and other human activities.
