Erie is a four-letter lake, canal, or city located in the Great Lakes region of North America. It is the fourth-largest lake in the world by surface area and the ninth-largest by volume. It is bordered by the Canadian province of Ontario to the north, the U.S. states of New York to the west and Pennsylvania to the south, and the U.S. state of Ohio to the east. The lake is named after the Erie tribe of Native Americans who lived along its southern shore. It is home to a wide variety of fish species, including walleye, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch.
