Lady Nancy ASTOR was an American-born British politician who was the first female Member of Parliament to take her seat in the House of Commons. She was born in Virginia in 1879 and moved to England in 1904, where she married Waldorf ASTOR, the son of William Waldorf ASTOR. She was a prominent member of the Conservative Party and served as an MP for Plymouth Sutton from 1919 to 1945. She was known for her wit and outspokenness, and was a strong advocate for women's rights.
