Lady Greystoke is the title given to JANE Porter, the female protagonist of the novel Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs. JANE is a beautiful and intelligent young woman who is stranded in the African jungle with her father and other survivors of a shipwreck. She meets Tarzan, a feral child raised by apes, and the two eventually fall in love and marry. JANE is brave and resourceful, and she helps Tarzan to learn about civilization and to become more human.
