Omar Khayyam or Omar Sharif was a Persian poet, mathematician, and astronomer who lived in the 11th century. He is best known for his collection of poems, Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, which has been translated into many languages. He also wrote treatises on mathematics and astronomy, and was an important figure in the development of algebra. He is remembered as one of the great minds of the Islamic Golden Age.
