Judith Weir is a British composer, born in 1954. She is best known for her operas and choral works, and has been awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to music. Her first opera, A Night at the Chinese Opera, was premiered in 1987. Her other works include The Vanishing Bridegroom, King Harald's Saga, and Miss Fortune. Her work has been performed by many leading orchestras and ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Thomas Arne was an English composer, best known for his operas and oratorios. He wrote the popular song 'Rule, Britannia!' and is credited with introducing the Italian style of composition to England.
